egg tempera - form and color - stippling


Create a gradient as background using the stippling (stupfen ger. ) technique.
Subsequently paint the provided reference in patchy block-in manner of painting
Use the complementary contrast between background and the portrait.
Mind the polycromatic character of the skin.


So there it was. The big egg tempera assignment we knew would be part of the exams and the stippling we were told to practice some more just the week before bothcombined.
The background took us about 5 to 6 hours alone untill we were satisfied with our gradients.
When it came to the painting for some reason my mind went blank. It suddenly felt like I had never done this before. Consequently my result was not up to my expectation or up to my fellow studentswork. Grades on this assignment took a dive and wednesday marked the low point of my exam performance.
